Setting up a prepaid funeral plan is a thoughtful, considered decision — not a sales call. At Hadaway & Denton, Jo and Carl will take the time to understand your wishes and tailor a plan to suit you, on your terms.
You can have that conversation at our premises in Ashford, in your own home, over the phone or by email — whatever feels most comfortable. There is no pressure, and no obligation. You tell us about the funeral you would like, and we'll show you how a plan can capture and pay for it in advance.
Because we are an independent, family-run funeral director, the plan is held with us — the same people who will look after your family on the day — not a national chain or a faceless call centre.
Meet The Team
We work in partnership with Golden Charter, one of the UK's largest funeral plan providers¹. Their plans are flexible, FCA-regulated and available to all UK residents regardless of age or state of health.
Once your plan is fully paid for, the funeral director's services included in it are guaranteed — even if our prices rise in the future.
No medical questions, no age limits. Anyone resident in the UK can take out a Golden Charter plan, regardless of state of health.
You're not buying from a faceless plan provider — you're appointing us, the same Ashford funeral director who will look after your family when the time comes.
Your payments go into the Golden Charter Trust, run by an independent Board of Trustees — so the money is protected and ring-fenced for your funeral.
One single payment, interest-free over up to 12 months, or longer monthly instalments. Choose what works for your budget.
One phone call activates your plan. Your loved ones won't have to make decisions or find money during one of the hardest moments of their lives.
Why Plan Ahead
A prepaid plan does two things at once: it locks our funeral director's fees in at today's prices, and it makes sure your family knows exactly what to do when the time comes. As customers often tell us, that combination brings real peace of mind — for everyone.
A plan also includes an allowance towards essential third-party costs — the cremation or burial fees and the officiant or minister — so the bulk of the funeral can be paid for in advance.
Tell us about the kind of funeral you would like — the type of service, the music, any personal touches — and we'll build a plan around it.
Speak to UsWhat's Covered
Third-party costs are outside our control and paid at the time of the funeral. Your plan includes an allowance towards them — there'll only be more to pay if those costs exceed the allowance, or if they rise by more than your plan's growth.
Talk Through Your PlanPayment Options
Pay for the whole plan in one go and it's done — nothing more to find later. Best if you have savings set aside and want maximum simplicity.
Spread the cost over up to 12 monthly payments, completely interest-free. Your plan is in place from the start and finalised when the final payment clears.
Prefer smaller monthly payments? Longer-term options are available, with a modest set-up cost. We'll walk you through the full cost in writing before you commit.
The retail price of your plan reflects the equivalent cost of a funeral today plus a one-off arrangement fee of £325, retained by Golden Charter to cover the cost of setting up your plan.
A Side-by-Side Look
When The Time Comes
When the time comes, one phone call to our office on 01233 421852 is all it takes. Your family won't be passed between departments — they'll speak to Jo or Carl directly.
We hold full details of your plan on file. We'll confirm your wishes with your family, contact Golden Charter, and start the arrangements straight away.
The funeral is carried out exactly as you set out, by the same people who took your plan. Our funeral director's services are paid for in full — your family only sees a bill if third-party costs have risen above the plan's allowance.
Once Your Plan Is in Place
Your Questions Answered
Yes. The whole point of planning ahead is that the funeral reflects you. We'll take the time to understand your wishes — the type of service, the music, hymns, any personal touches — and your plan will record them so they're carried out exactly as you intended.
No. A Golden Charter plan is available to all UK residents regardless of age or state of health, with no medical questions to answer.
Your payments are held within the Golden Charter Trust, which has almost £1.21bn under management³. The Trust is operated by an independent Board of Trustees whose role is to safeguard your payments and make sure the funeral director's services in your plan can be paid for at the time they're required — however far into the future that may be. You can read more at goldencharter.co.uk/faqs.
Yes. Golden Charter Limited (trading as Golden Charter Funeral Plans) is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority — FRN 965279. Hadaway & Denton Independent Funeral Directors Ltd is an appointed representative of Golden Charter Limited.
Once your plan is fully paid for, the funeral director's services included in your plan are fixed — even if our prices rise in the future, there's nothing more to pay for those services. That guarantee is the central promise of the plan.
Third-party costs — crematorium fees, cemetery fees, the minister or officiant's fee — are outside our control and paid at the time of the funeral. Depending on the plan you choose, an allowance towards these costs is included. There'll only be more to pay if those costs exceed the allowance, or if they rise by more than your plan's growth.
Your plan stays valid. If you move, contact us or Golden Charter and arrangements can be made for a different funeral director near you to carry out the funeral, with the funds released from the Trust in the usual way.
The arrangements set out in your plan will still go ahead. Any outstanding balance will need to be settled, and your family or representative will be told clearly what that means — it won't be a surprise. Single-payment and short instalment plans are designed to be settled quickly, which is partly why they're popular.
Yes — a one-off arrangement fee of £325 is included in the plan price and is retained by Golden Charter to cover the cost of setting up your plan. There are no other hidden charges from us.
Call us on 01233 421852, request a brochure via our contact page, or pop in to see us at our premises in Ashford. We'll sit down (or pick up the phone) and walk through the options together — there's no obligation to proceed.
